    ahhh, so true. I had to memorize one of his poems and one by John Greenleaf Whittier. Englsih class 9th grade.
    Longfellow’s was “Midnight Ride” and Whittier’s was “School Days.” Just had to look them up. I remember some of the words, not enough. lol

    When I was at school we had to learn Longfellow’s ’ The Village Blacksmith’ and lines still spring to mind.
    Years later I read his epic Hiawatha; it slew me.

      I’ve never read anything by him that I can recall. Possibly back in school but that was decades ago.

    Longfellow lossed two wives the first in childbirth , the second burnt to death. He never got over his last wife who gave him six children.
